Food brings the community together – even when we remain 6ft apart. On October 30th, Canopy South, with the support of our event partners Mobile Grace Cafe and The Simple Foundation, had an opportunity to connect with neighbors while providing 200 delicious to-go meals.
The Mobile Grace team was ready with healthy food truck fare like teriyaki chicken, roasted vegetables, and chili. While we wish we could have sat down and shared these meals together, in the interest of health and safety, our guests selected their favorite entrees and received two portions to take home.
Canopy South had the opportunity to chat with residents as their meals were prepared, sharing more about the organization and reaching out to those interested in having an active role in transforming their community. Omaha Housing Authority staff were also on-site meeting with Southside Terrace residents to gain critical feedback about improvements and desires for the future.
As safety directives change, we look forward to more events where we can come together and share a meal and good conversation with our neighbors. Until then, we will continue connecting with our community creatively and carefully.
